I HAVE A FRIEND

 IN THE MEADOW

I have a friend in the meadow
God holds onto the ends
of his invisible roots
And sends me to remind him
while I stand beside him
How beautiful
life becomes
when we believe
in what we feel
Each time I am near
the tallest tree
he releases me
like a bird to flight
If only
When I am lost in your branches
I could embrace you
the way rain does
when it falls
and covers you
How gently it is sent
to remind us
warmth of light
will follow and guide us
How earth must be
so comfortable
sleeping beneath you
giving you strength
when wind and years weigh
How young morning light
longs to touch you
and how quickly
dawn comes to hold you
You no longer stand alone
when the family of stars
shines
and protects you
with velvet night
In summer's sleep
I have dreamed deeply
beautiful tree
and have awakened
to see
the arms of God
in the amber sun
setting the ends of your roots free
