A LOST HOME

I had a house I called my home
That I really loved, you see
Until my house burned to the ground
It was not much to me.

I never realized how much I cared
In all the many ways
I still remember the blaze of fire
And the fear of death that day.

I was asleep tucked in my bed
Dreaming in my sleep
Suddenly I was pulled from bed
With only a gown and bare feet.

Fire! Fire! Everyone screamed
Get out before it's too late
I looked around inside the house
And screamed "Please don't take it away!"

I didn't know what to do
So I ran out of the door
My twin following right behind
Screaming to the top of her voice.

We ran to the shop where Mom was at work
To tell her about the fire
It seemed like the blaze and the smoke
Just kept rising higher.

We ran across to my Grandmother's house
We woke them with screaming and crying
We were filled with hurt and fright
It seemed that someone was dying.

The firefighters couldn't save our home
It all went up in flames
We didn't know how the fire had started
So no one was to blame.

Vehicles, pictures, and personal things
Along with things of my Dad's
All were lost this very day
And memories are all we have.
